Ada banyak kata tanya dalam Bahasa Inggris , dan those question words are a bit different from Indonesian question words. Mungkin kita biasa dalam Bahasa Indonesia menanyakan nama dengan kata tanya "siapa", sehingga tidak sedikit lho orang - orang Indonesia yang menanyakan nama dalam Bahasa Inggris menjadi "Who is your name?" Padahal, itu bukan cara menanyakan nama dalam Bahasa Inggris, yang bener "What is your name?". Nah, gak kepengin khan salah dalam bertanya dalam Bahasa Inggris . Nah, biar gak salah, yuk kita belajar kata tanya dalam Bahasa Inggris.
1. WHAT
Kata tanya what digunakan untuk:
a.Menanyakan nama suatu benda (dan nama orang)
Example :
What did she buy? She bought a pen.
What are you looking for? I am looking for my bag.
What makes him confused? The problems make him confused.
What is your name? My name’s John.
b. Menanyakan pekerjaan. Example:
What does he do?
He is a teacher.
What is she?
She is a musician.
2. WHO
Kata tanya who digunakan untuk:
a.Menanyakan nama pelaku (subject). Example:
-Who takes my pen? John takes your pen.
-Who put this book on the table? Mr. Smith put that book on the table.
-Who cleaned this room? The maid cleaned this room.
-Who is he? He is my brother.
b. Menanyakan objek. Example :
- Who do you mean? I mean Mr. Sanusi.
-Who is the man? The man is neighbour.
-Who are you talking about? I’m talking about the stranger.
3. WHOM
Kata tanya whom digunakan untuk menanyakan objek manusia.
Contoh:
Whom will you send the letter to? I will send the letter to Mr. Bag/to.
Whom did you talk to? I talked to my teacher.
Whom have they invited to the party? They have invited their classmates to the party.
Whom did she go with? She went with her uncle.
4. WHOSE
Kata Tanya ini diguankan untuk menanyakan pemilik suatu benda,baik manusia maupun bukan manusia.
-Whose pen is this? That is her pen.
-Whose dictionary can I borrow? You can borrow my dictionary.
-I found this wallt in my bag. Whose is this? That is John's.
-Whose brother will take care of the children? Santi's brother will
5. WHICH
Kata tanya which digunakan untuk menanyakan pilihan. Example :
Which pen is yours, the red one or the black one? My pen is the black one.
Which is your bag? My bag is the one on the table.
Which man will you support? I will support the man with a hat.
Which girl sang the song?The girl with long hair sang the song.
6.WHY
Kata tanya why digunakan untuk menanyakan penyebab sesuatu hal terjadi. Dapat juga dikatakan kata tanya ini digunakan untuk menanyakan alasan.
Why does she look so sad? She looks so sad because she failed her test.
Why don't you join us? I don't have time.
Why didn't he repair that chair? He didn't repair that chair because he had no tools.
7. WHERE
Kata tanya where digunakan untuk menanyakan tempat terjadinya atau beradanya suatu peristiwa atau benda. EXAMPLE:
Where did he go last night? He went to the movie last night.
Where will they go on this vacation? They will go to Batam on this vacation.
Where shall I put this fan? You can put it on the table.
8. WHEN
Kata tanya when digunakan untuk menanyakan waktu terjadinya suatu peristiwa kegiatan atau peristiwa. Example.

Kata tanya how dapat digunakan untuk:
a.Menanyakan kabar atau keadaan
